    Check if the entrance sleeve for feeder is leaking and tighten it according to requirements. Wash away the deposits generated during its working from its inner wall and screens by water supply hose in each shift  since these deposits will increase load on shock absorber and lower shaker;s ability to separate solids. Besides, examine the tensioning situation and working state of screen according to related requirements in each shift. In order to prevent solid phase from losing, connection between screen and screen frame base should be firm and stable and no hole or failure be found on screen. When screens fail, they should be replaced promptly.

    Examine if horizontal support, supporting bar and lateral support deteriorate or are damaged in each shift since if they fail, screens will be destroyed. Every time when screens are replaced, check if tensioning system deteriorates or is damaged. Tensioning system is used to tension screen with tensile force and to securely fix it on screen frame base. Improper tensioning of screen will reduce its service life.

     Detailed Information of Liquid/Gas Separator: 

    Functions: It is an ideal equipment when oil spill or blowout is encountered and when under-balanced drilling string is applied as drilling processes. KOSUN Liquid/Gas Separator is primarily used to remove the multitude of free gas in drilling fluids, including poisonous gas like hydrogen sulfide. It is proved that it is very reliable and indispensable safety equipment.

    Installation and Maintenance of Liquid/Gas Separator 

    Installation

    Generally speaking, the Liquid/Gas Separator is installed on the ground next to No.1 mud tank. The ground should be flat and sturdy and pre-dug with anchor bolt holes. For installation, hoisting machine should be used to lift the separator by its lifting lug perpendicular to the ground and put it down gently. Then tension its upper body with ground by means of steel cable and make sure it is perpendicular to the ground. Afterwards, cast anchor bolts and tighten the separator. 

    When it is completed, take discharge line(No.1) to where it is 60-80 meters away from wellhead(lines should be prepared by yourselves, or make it clear when making an order if lines are needed). Connect (No.2)stock inlet with rotary blowout preventer or choke manifold. Close butterfly valve of (No.6)sewage outfall and open that of (No.5)stock outlet, then connect it to No.1 mud tank via pipelines. For haulage, dismount the manifold, loosen the tightened steel cable, grasp the top of machine with hoisting machine and unscrew the anchor bolts. Its ladders can function as hauling bracket. 

    Maintenance:

    Empty the drilling fluids from equipment and wash it clean when it is used. It is forbidden to store drilling fluids in the separator since the solidified drilling mud will not be able to work normally.

    Notes on CNQ100 KOSUN Desilter Assembly and Adjustment

    1. Connect the stock outlet of centrifugal pump and stock inlet of desilter together with 6” rubber hose. The gas holes atop overflow pipe are used to prevent siphonage inside. Some small amount of drilling fluids will leak via them when desilter is working. However, the hole should not be blocked especially artificially, or the machine’s performance will be affected. 

    2. Desilter pipe manifold, whether they are inlet main line or outlet main line, are linked by flange at either end both to allow flow-in and -out of liquid. The joint of overflow main line can rotate at any angle in order to install 8” rubber hose into another compartment of mud tank. Inlet pipe and overflow pipe should form 90° angle when they are installed. 

    3. Screen box fixation devices should be turned on before starting desilter. 

    4. Desander can be adjusted via the adjustment of Centrifugal Pump outlet pressure.

    5. Screens

      Screen lifespan and efficiency will be greatly affected by how well screens are assembled. Try to prevent screen from being artificially damaged. Straighten the screen, or screens will be rapidly worn due to “friction” between screens and supporting strips when shale shaker is working; but they cannot be too tightened, or they will be rapidly damaged or directly torn under over great prestress.When crooked or damaged, supporting strips should be straightened and replaced. 

    6. Slip locking mechanism

       It is aimed at locking screens and tightening winding shaft. Winding shaft can be locked by tightening slip with screw. In order to prevent the mechanism from rusting away, it is better to lubricate it with butter every time when screens are replaced. 

    7. Maintenance of Screens:

      It is forbidden to scratch or slap them with shovel or other iron tools and hard shovel. Apply screens with different mesh based on drilling fluids performances. It is best to use screens with thinner mesh for better efficiency when it is ensured that drilling fluids will run away. 

    Maintenance and Keep-up

    Maintenance regulations must be implemented on screen maintenance, reparation and cleanup. Failed or damaged components should be adjusted, screwed, lubricated, cleaned, replaced when accumulative working time is above 500 hours. When above 4000 hours. Tightening shaft of screen box should be examined and replaced, taper cylinders and spiral case changed and electric motor insulation property examined.

  • China Begins to Seriously Fight Pollution

    Chinese people have witnessed a dozen of smoggy days after stepping into a new year. Chinese government finally began to take serious measures to fight against the “pollution monster”.

    In the recent years, China has been claiming more recognition and reputation as an emerging economy, whose wing-footed development truly stunned its neighbors and some century-old world dominants. However, its speed is too fast to allow itself a stop to  sometimes have a look at how the landscape has transformed alongside.

    From who-knows-what time, the air we inhale and exhale has started to contain more elements which we call dust or sand in its molecular structure. People has felt it more and more difficult to breath with such.     Therefore, Chinese government decided to set up a network to monitor air pollution nationwide in 17 provinces. Some experts even had suspicions that kitchen cooking should also be blamed for the emission of PM2.5 into air and called for Beijing citizens to improve on that.

    In September, Beijing unveiled a five-year air pollution control plan in which the city decided to fine any violator of the rule above 1 million yuan.

    In drilling waste management, biodegradation has become one of the most favorable solutions among oil drilling companies at home and abroad due to its less expenses and the good environmental benefits it can achieve. However, different drilling environments mean applications of biodegradation vary.

    Biological drilling waste treatment describes degradation and mineralization of pollutants in drilling waste by bacteria growth, reproduction and internal respiration introduction of degrading bacteria and nutrients with the introduction of degrading bacteria and nutrients. It also takes advantage of biological characteristics in practical operations such as, liquid/solid separation by means of bios and degradation by means of adding microbial flocculant.

    However, the practicality of biodegradation must be taken in to consideration based on the local environmental conditions before formally deciding upon this treatment approach. "Indigenous" microorganisms, nutrition factors, humidity, hydraulic detention time, PH value, dissolved oxygen should all be factored into consideration before the implementation of biodegradation.

    “Indigenous” microorganisms are intrinsic microorganisms in drilling waste which do not need introduction and is comparatively economical, but is not effective in treatment. Nutrition factors play an important role in biological growth and metabolism. Therefore, drilling waste treatment needs appropriate addition of nutrition factors. Humidity is vital for biological growth and reproduction, but certainly of no significance for drilling fluids containing large amount of water. However, temperature should be kept under control. Minimized temperature is 15 degrees centigrade and the best is 30 degrees centigrade in drilling fluids treatment. Besides, for field operation of waste management, heating and insulation measures are needed for Winter and Spring and heating and cooling for Summer and Autumn. Hydraulic detention time defines how long treated wastewater stays in bioreactor. Organic pollutants in waste drilling fluids are, to a great extent, synthetic organic macromolecules which has a larger degradation rate than the other organic pollutants in wastewater, so the chosen bacteria should have better sludge loading ability. Above all, PH value and oxygen content of drilling fluids are also important factors and basic conditions for microorganisms to survive in drilling waste.

    At present, the international waste treatment primarily adopts such approaches as land cultivation method, composting method, bioreactor, microbial flocculants method, anaerobic bio-treatment method, aerobic bio-treatment method, natural treatment method(oxidation pond).

    Land cultivation method means to thoroughly degrade pollutants contained in drilling waste resorting to re-cultivation. It is very popular in many US and Russia drilling waste treatment sites, but it takes ages and costs a lot and is very easily affected by environment. Compositing method mainly degrades organisms by diluting drilling waste and then adding nutrients and sawdusts to attract microorganisms, which however truly is time-consuming. Bioreactor is both costly and energy-consuming since diluted and blended drilling waste and nutrient solution are put into certain tuner for adjustment of the survival factors for microorganism in order to achieve biodegradation. Microbial flocculants method makes good use of the principles of organic flocculants to solidify drilling fluids and degrade during the process.
