    Decanter centrifuges can be specified by the bowls’ lengths and max. diameters as 18×24 inch, 14×22 inch, 14×20 inch (diameter×length); or by the capacities, such as domestic centrifuges with capacities of 40m³/h or 60m³/h and bowl speed ranging from 1500~3500r/min

    Handling Unweighted Drilling Fluids

    Effective separation in unweighted low-solids drilling fluids involves centrifugation and the required centrifuge which is usually large-capacity centrifuge dealing with 23~45m³/h of fluids and 3~4t solids. Drilling fluids will go into two flows in centrifuge, one of which is underflow discharging useless solids to waste pool and another overflow returning valuable fluids to mud tank. Now, centrifuge is riding a wave of popularity in purifying unweighted drilling fluids which carries enormous benefits.

    In this case, centrifugal is primarily aiming at controlling viscosity since large viscosity decelerates the speed in drilling. It overflows the impacting ultra-fine particles and colloids to waste pool, and sends back underflow with numerous barite content to the tank.

  • Causes and Solutions of Sand Fill in Hydrocyclones

    Hydrocyclones are major components in desander, desilter and mud cleaner and assist most of their works. A hydrocyclone has a upper casing, a lower casing, a underflow mouth as well as auxiliary parts. The upper casing is an inlet chamber in cylindric with an inlet pipe on one side and a vortex tube in top middle as the overflow. The lower casing is a cone whose angle ranges from 15°~20° at the tip. The underflow mouth is located at the bottom as the discharge port for solids.

    The work principle of hydrocyclones is to separate two or several components with different densities with the aid of centrifugal force. After the mixture is sent into hydrocyclones by certain pressure, it gradually flow into a high-speed rotation where the heavy phase form an outer swirl by moving downwards along the axis, outwards along radial direction, downwards again along the cone till they flow out of underflow; while the light phase form upward inner swirl by moving towards axis and upwards till they go out from overflow outlet. Thus, the separation is done.

    Sand fill is the commonest anormaly to hydrocyclone and is categorized as:

    Sand fill at the underflow: it happens as a consequence of improper adjustment that results in dry bottom or of excessive silt content which brings about overloaded hydrocyclone. It should be removed immediately as it affects the purification ability and accelerates abrasion of lining and vortex tube. Usually the best ways are to enlarge underflow outlet or to have more solids taken away by preceding equipment.

    Sand fill at the inlet: it can be partial or overall. Partial sand fill decelerates fluid flow inside inlet, leaks enormous drilling fluids from underflow and sometimes clean mud which may flow backwards from the overflow as, at that time, hydrocyclone is not more functional than a hopper. Overall sand fill is prone to back flow drilling mud from the overflow. Inlet sand fill generally stems from poor drilling fluids management, and most likely from going round the shale shaker or abrading shaker screens.

    The exhibitors resorts to “the unexpected”, like art performances, charming models and massive screen advertisements for more attention. However, the most eye-attracting are the new equipment and technologies on display. No doub, “NEW” is the major feature this year.

    Eight new equipment on display

    The biggest one is to showcase eight new equipment, apart from the old Centrifugal Pump and DC355 Decanter Centrifuge. Black Rhino Shale Shaker, DG70-1 Screw Pump, DC530 Decanter Centrifuge, Vertical Centrifuge, Black Rhino Mud Cleaner were all newly developped in the recent years.

     

     

    DC530 Decanter Centrifuge is a new upgrade from the original manufacture techniques, recently innovated and improved in terms of separating effects and efficiency. And another new product, Black Rhino Shale Shaker is transformed on motors, function modulization as well as performance from the old QZS703 and QZS83. Co-sponsored by Xi’an KOSUN Machinery Co., Ltd. and ES Company, Vertical Centrifugal also debuted at Beijing CIPPE along with Black Rhino Mud Cleaner and DG70-1 Screw Pump.

    Many customers visited and enquiried at KOSUN stand for the first day. Among them, those from Egypt and Russia expressed strong interest and intention to cooperate.

  • Common Ways to Adjust Water-based Mud Density

It is proper to apply solids control system against harmful solids and to get down nud density by input of additives or lower-density mud from identical system, etc.

    Water-based mud is a generic term of versatile circulating liquids satisfying different drilling requirements in exploration efforts. It plays a leading role in actual oil drilling operations. In terms of composition, it is a multi-phase dispersed system including bentonite, additives, weighting materials, brine and drill cuttings. In terms of fluid media, it is a drilling fluids with water as continuous fluid media. Water -based mud extends to deep well drilling mud, dispersed drilling mud, calcified drilling mud, brine drilling mud, non-dispersed drilling mud and MMH drilling mud.

    Ways to boost its density:

    1. It is better to remove coarse solids and keep bentonite and solid content within designed limits first.

    2. It is better to evenly inject weighting materials with weighting device along the cycle whose density is best kept between 0.01g/cm3 and 0.04 g/cm3(unless confronted with kick and spill).

    3. It is better to improve mud’s lubricating property with proper amount of lubricant when high-density drilling mud are made denser.

    4. After all, it is better to adjust mud properties within designed limits.

    Adjustment of Water-based Mud Density:

    1. Based on actual operations, it is proper to apply solids control system against harmful solids and to get down nud density by input of additives or lower-density mud from identical system, etc.

    2. It is better to add weighting materials and proportional weighted fluids for boost of mud density. The weighting materials can be barite, iron ore, limestone powder, and so on.

    1. Hydrocyclones in desander and desilter are both made of wearable materials like PU, high-chromium cast iron or ceramics.

    2. Desander is flexible to work with 1-3 pieces of 10" or 12" cones, each of which has a capacity between 100-120GPM, and is capable to address solids from 45-74μm. While desilter is flexible to work with 8, 10, 12, 16 or 20 pieces of 4" or 5" cones and is capable to segregate solids between 10-44μm.

    3. Angle of the sieve beds can be adjusted manually when it is rolling.
