  • Large Batch Shaker Screens Reordered by an Indian Customer Ready for Shipment

    Recently, KOSUN screens of LS584 shale shaker for an Indian customer have been manufactured and are under quality inspection and encasement, waiting for shipment.
     
     
     
    Since the customer ordered KOSUN LS584 shale shakers in November 2014, it has been the fourth time for the customer to purchase large batch accessories from KOSUN. Based on the customer’s feedback about his using previously purchased equipment and his requirement on OEM of accessories, KOSUN proactively made preparations for production and reasonably arranged work shifts during the National Day in order to deliver these shaker screens with guaranteed quality and in a timely manner. A few days ago, these screens had been completed within the period scheduled by the customer, and they are to be transported to the Port of Qingdao for shipment.
  • Indian Customers Favor KOSUN-made Products

    On October 24, 540 pieces of shaker screens ordered by an Indian customer were inspected and packed into containers in KOSUN factory in Jingwei Industrial Park in Xi’an. These screens are to be transported to the site of the customer through land-ocean transportation.
     
     
     
    Shale shaker is a kind of solids control equipment most commonly used in oil and gas drilling sites. Model selection and quality of shaker screens are of vital importance for handling capacity and treatment effect of shale shaker. KOSUN technical team goes deep into the drilling sites to investigate compositions and properties of various drilling mud, establishes and consummates mud information database in different regions, providing scientific references for helping customers select shaker screens according to their local conditions.
     
     
     
    KOSUN is always pursuing such a goal as “appropriate increase of service life with controllable cost” at technology and manufacturing links of screens.   • KOSUN Solids Control Equipment Facilitating Oil Development in the South China Sea

    Recently, good news comes from KOSUN Marketing Center that KOSUN has won the bid for dedicated drilling fluid centrifuge used at offshore platform of a CNOOC subsidiary by virtue of its excellent product performance and perfect after-sales service system. Three DC355-VFD centrifuges (LW355×1257N-VFD) will be delivered to CNOOC Enping Oilfields, servicing at Enping-231 and Enping-181 offshore drilling platforms.

    It is worth mentioning that length-diameter ratio of the bowl for this bid-winning DC355 high speed VFD centrifuge is 355×1257 and the maximum speed is up to 3800rpm. This model has been enjoying popularity among major drilling companies and oilfield service companies after its launch on the market in 2013. It is particularly suitable for drilling waste management and has yielded extraordinary results on domestic market of drilling waste zero discharge. As core equipment for drilling fluid recovery and solids treatment and discharge, this centrifuge has excellently completed each solids control and drilling waste management task.

    These three DC355-VFD high speed decanter centrifuges winning the bid are equipped with dedicated CCS certified motors. Both anticorrosion and painting on equipment surface meet use standards of offshore drilling platform. Electrical appliances of well-known German brand are adopted for electrical control unit. The bowl adopts hard alloy empiecement process, which is stronger and more wear resistant compared with inferior ceramic empiecement technology, especially meeting remanufacturing standards for refurbishment and reinforcement of screw conveyor separately (which is impossible for ceramic empiecement). It is these advanced process and manufacturing standards that make KOSUN stand out among numerous competitors.
     
     
    Cooperation between KOSUN and CNOOC can be traced back to the year of 2007, when KOSUN provided two drilling fluid centrifuges for COSL for its PEMEX project, and since then, KOSUN has been unceasingly delivering centrifuges to offshore drilling platforms of COSL.   • KOSUN Drilling Waste Zero Discharge Equipment Draws Customers to Flock to Oilfield in Wushen County

    Recently, customers intensely drawn by KOSUN drilling waste zero discharge equipment (After being treated by KOSUN Hi-G dryer, the mud is ≤1.03 in specific gravity) have approached KOSUN technical service engineering team in Wushen County oilfield drilling site in Inner Mongolia from Henan, Xinjiang, etc. They examined running conditions and treatment effects of KOSUN drilling waste zero discharge equipment on the oilfield site.
     
    KOSUN technical service engineering team explained process flow of KOSUN drilling waste management system, working principles of centrifuge and Hi-G dryer to customers based on the live treatment system while drilling, and showed them excellent treatment effect of Hi-G dryer and centrifuge.   • Treatment Methods of Harmful Solids in Drilling Fluid

    Drilling fluid is the circulating fluid used in drilling process, a mixture of liquid, solid and chemical agents. It is commonly known as mud and also called the blood of drilling, playing an important role in the whole drilling process and accounting for 7%~10% of total drilling cost. That’s why treatment of harmful solids and effective recycling seem so particularly important. Initially, it is necessary to look into composition characteristics of solids in drilling fluid and its influence on well drilling, so as to remove harmful solids economically and effectively for further recycling. Solids generated in drilling process mainly include mixing clay, weighting substance, cuttings and other solid substance. They are divided into clay, cuttings, weighting substance and solid substance in treating agent according to their sources in drilling fluid.According to the modes of action of them and their ions in water, low density solids further fall into active solids and inert solids.

    Active solids are easily hydrated and can react with other substances in liquid. This kind of solids has high surface activity and specific surface area with relatively active electrochemical property. Clay particles in mud, clay and ions and clay and polymer are closely bonded. Function of these solids is to regulate drilling fluid properties and they are called useful solids. Without surface charge and electrochemical reaction, inert solids do not react to the change of surroundings, including sand, flint, limestone, dolomite, some shale and a mixture of various minerals. They accumulate together, compressing active solids and coagulate them, which increases viscosity and causes change in drilling fluid properties. These solids are useless in drilling fluid and are called useless solids. When particle size of such solids is over 15μm, they abrade the circulating equipment and are thus called harmful solids. Cuttings are major harmful solids in drilling fluid and affect physical properties of drilling fluid during the whole drilling process, increasing density, viscosity, yield point, water loss, mud cake, abrasiveness, glutinousness and flow resistance of drilling fluid. During drilling process, cuttings may even damage oil and gas reservoirs, reduce ROP, increase rotary table torque and cause blockage during tripping, even resulting in lost circulation, blowout and other complex downhole problems. Besides, cuttings in drilling fluid seriously abrade the circulating system.

    The key point for achieving drilling fluid recycling is to effectively treat the harmful solids contained within. Solids control system can effectively achieve such a goal. In the system, shale shaker can remove harmful solids with diameter ≥74μm, desander can remove those with diameter of 44~74μm, desilter can remove those with diameter of 15~44μm (high efficiency cleaner is a kind of equipment integrating both desander and desilter and can remove harmful solids of 15~74μm) and centrifuge can remove those with diameter ≥2μm. Mud density may not be too high during normal operation to reach its performance requirements, so the density must be reduced to a proper value, and solids with diameter less than 15μm need to be treated by centrifuge. If barite is required to be recycled while treating harmful solids, a high speed centrifuge is necessary.

    Thus it can be seen that drilling fluid can be recycled through the above sequential treatment by solids control system, which greatly saves drilling cost and enhances drilling profit.
