— A Chronicle in the Course of Growth of China’s Solids Control Equipment

On March 29th, 2016, at the 16th China International Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition (CIPPE 2016), the largest global petroleum exhibition, a black high frequency linear shale shaker at the central position of the most popular East No.1 Pavilion has drawn large numbers of audiences to stop for a closer look. This is KOSUN high-end solids control equipment on display for the exhibition–Black Rhino Shale Shaker.

Shale shaker of Black Rhino series has been the best domestic shale shaker so far, and wins consistent praise from drilling sites abroad. Martin and KOSUN Join Hands at CIPPE 2015

General Manager of KOSUN expressed at the interview that, in high-end domestic oil and gas exploitation field, especially offshore drilling platforms, shale shakers are largely imported and domestic equipment struggle hard to enter high-end drilling field. Through over ten years’ resolution of multiple technological problems, KOSUN has built advanced shale shakers that can compete with world-leading brands. Meanwhile, as key equipment of “zero discharge of drilling waste” operation, Black Rhino Hi-G Dryer has made contribution to China’s environmental protection during the process of clean energy production. We hope that this CIPPE will further expand influence of Black Rhino series products, making it a self-owned product and technology for Chinese drilling career.

Inspired by the spirit of Deng Xiaoping’s South Tour Speeches, Mr. Geng Zhonghou (1950-2015) resigned from office and founded KOSUN at his age of 42 in1992. Mr. Geng Zhonghou was once backbone of Changqing Oilfield No. 2 Machinery Factory. Former president of Changqing Drilling and Production Research Institute, Mr. Gong Weian， developed the first drilling fluid shale shaker in China and it passed the trial production successfully, which rapidly occupied domestic market under sales leadership of Mr. Geng Zhonghou and ended full import dependence of the equipment in China. Through two-year joint research and development by Mr. Geng Zhonghou and Mr. Gong Weian, KOSUN took the lead in developing the first high frequency linear shale shaker in China in 1998, further expanding application of domestic shale shaker in onshore oilfields, promoting purification effect of drilling fluid, reducing drilling cost and guaranteeing stability of drilling operation to a greater extent.

In 2007, four sets of KOSUN modular offshore solids control equipment serviced in Gulf of Mexico for PEMEX on CNOOC project. This is the first independently designed and manufactured offshore module in CNOOC history, which marked breaking of monopoly of European and American equipment on oilfields in Gulf of Mexico. Since then, KOSUN personnel have determined to make world-class solids control equipment and make Chinese people proud of themselves. KOSUN continuously conducted field tests of all kinds of equipment in such countries and regions as China, America, North Africa, Kazakhstan and Russia. All new products are tested on site for eight to eighteen months before mass production and marketing, and proud Black Rhino series was finally made after equipment test and rectification under various working environments and on different platforms.

As chairman of KOSUN, Mr. Geng Zhonghou still summoned engineers in ward and discussed technical details of Black Rhino products before his death. The master’s work took off and with consistent acceptance both home and abroad, Black Rhino products finally become oilfield equipment that pays respect to Chinese manufacturing.

The video shows the latest achievements of KOSUN complete equipment of zero discharge of drilling fluids in March 2016. The material for processing is oil-base mud cuttings (sampled from oil-base mud cuttings during the second section in Sichuan). The OOC of OBM cuttings treated by the cuttings dryer can average 4.6%, which reaches an international advanced level.

KOSUN Helps Improve a New Round of Urban Renovation of South Africa

At end of January 2016, KOSUN completed the KSMR-250 HDD mud recycling system and delivered it to Johannesburg of South Africa from its factory in Xi’an, China. Comprehensive technical indicators of KOSUN KSMR-250 system are highly recognized by the HDD engineering contractors in South Africa. With capacity of 250GPM, this mud recycling system will be used together with American Augers DD-10 horizontal directional drilling machine in HDD urban pipeline construction in Johannesburg.

KSMR-250 mud recycling system is independently designed by KOSUN. The whole system consists of the following equipment: one 5m³ mud tank, one KSLS2-752 double-deck shale shaker specially used for HDD engineering, four 4” desilting cyclones, one mixing hopper and two 3×4 sand pumps. The mud recycling system features compact structure and reasonable arrangement, integrating mud purification, circulation and mixing.

KOSUN can offer various HDD mud recycling systems ranging from 200GPM to 1000GPM to customers worldwide, and can also provide customized products as per the customers’ specific demands, to meet different field treatment requirements.

KOSUN Marching Towards the Market Segment of Construction Waste Treatment

At the beginning of 2016, at the invitation of a well-known construction company, several engineers of KOSUN Waste Treatment Research Center visited a famous residential community under construction at the center of Xi’an, with the main purpose of paying a return visit to the construction waste sieving and disposing system provided by KOSUN to the company in 2015 and jointly discussing about the equipment improvement.

In October 2015, KOSUN and the company concluded an agreement on equipment trial. KOSUN retrofitted LS703 linear shale shaker markedly and sent the equipment to the project site for construction waste sieving and disposing. Being different from the traditional construction waste treatment (removing large abandoned solid bricks and stones), this set of system mainly aims at sieving and disposing construction waste in the process of building. It is said that the treatment method for this project is the first time in China.

These construction wastes mainly consist of dust, small concrete blocks, sawdust, discarded PVC pipes and other fine garbage. The previous treatment method is directly using small vehicles to carry these wastes to the ground by elevator and then using trucks to transport them out of the project site, with the following disadvantages:

High transport cost
Using trucks to transport waste raises much dust and causes secondary air pollution.
Using trucks to transport waste affects the traffic and has a potential safety hazard.

Failing to thoroughly dispose waste and only transferring waste to a temporary dumping site, which causes secondary pollution.The material conveyer system jointly designed by KOSUN and the customer can transfer construction waste in buildings to the dustproof workshop of shale shaker for efficient sieving and sorting of materials. After the subsequent crushing link, above 75% of materials can be recycled, which greatly reduce the waste treatment cost. Major advantages are as follows:

Greatly reduce the amount of waste needing to be transferred and the transport cost.
Greatly reduce dust.
Most waste can be recycled.
Decrease the space occupied by waste.
At the meeting, both sides conducted an in-depth discussion and put forward some suggestions for improvement. Manager Wang, Product Manager of KOSUN Shale Shaker, said frankly.Relevant departments and social masses have never paid much attention to construction waste created in the process of building. Nowadays, all walks of life are striving for environmental protection, and KOSUN is also brave in challenging such technical problems and fights for making contributions to energy conservation and environmental protection!” After the meeting, both sides decided to launch the improvement project of this set of system. It is predicted that this set of system will benefit all construction sites nationwide in the near future.
