    Water-based mud is a generic term of versatile circulating liquids satisfying different drilling requirements in exploration efforts. It plays a leading role in actual oil drilling operations. In terms of composition, it is a multi-phase dispersed system including bentonite, additives, weighting materials, brine and drill cuttings. In terms of fluid media, it is a drilling fluids with water as continuous fluid media. Water -based mud extends to deep well drilling mud, dispersed drilling mud, calcified drilling mud, brine drilling mud, non-dispersed drilling mud and MMH drilling mud.

    Ways to boost its density:

    1. It is better to remove coarse solids and keep bentonite and solid content within designed limits first.

    2. It is better to evenly inject weighting materials with weighting device along the cycle whose density is best kept between 0.01g/cm3 and 0.04 g/cm3(unless confronted with kick and spill).

    3. It is better to improve mud’s lubricating property with proper amount of lubricant when high-density drilling mud are made denser.

    4. After all, it is better to adjust mud properties within designed limits.

While desilter is flexible to work with 8, 10, 12, 16 or 20 pieces of 4" or 5" cones and is capable to segregate solids between 10-44μm.

  • How to Do Daily Maintenance on Vacuum Degasser?

    Techniques to Extend Lifespan of Vacuum Degasser:

    1. When the vaccum degasser is rolling, it is necessary to check its vacuum gauge all the time and adjust vacuum degree between 0.03~0.05 to ensure the normal operation.

    2. The rotor and suction pipe inside vacuum chamber should be washed clean after the machine is used. Then cut off the electricity, unload the blind(i.e. the oval blind flange), examine the condition of parts, remove the foreign odjects and wash clean the inner wall and rotor with high-pressure water pipe.

    3. Weekly cleaning should be performed on the head cover of vacuum chamber to keep dirty stuff from blocking gas passage. The gas collector and bubble separator on head cover can be washed by clean water. While doing these, unconnect the vacuum pipelines, undo the pipeplug and gauge stand, then insert high-pressure water pipe for 3-5 mins each time.

    4. The aforementioned cleaning should be carried out every time when drilling work is completed so as to ensure the normal operation for next time.

    5. Lubricate the spindle bearing with 250-300mL grease every other month.

    6. As far as vaccum pump is concerned, its bearing should be under frequent examination to keep its temperature, after being lubricated, 15-20 degrees higher than the ambient temperature. When it is above 30℃, vacuum gauge should be watched constantly, water in gas/liquid separator replaced promtply and the water temperature kept under 35℃.

    7. In wintertime, immediately discharge the standing water inside gas/liquid separator and pump as the precautions of possible frost crack. After vacuum pump is dismantled and repaired, please note the concentricity of coupling.

Its large agitating strength can extend to a large scale of drilling fluids and greatly reduce resisting moments when it starts. Drilling mud agitator is mainly consisted of explosion-proof electric motor, reducer, base and impeller module, with its electric motor and reducer, reducer and impeller shaft connected via solid coupling. Welded by four blades, its impeller generates turbulent motion in drilling mud to double the agitating effects. The plate surrounded by blades prevent solids from gathering together around lower blades, reduce resisting moments against blades and avoid burning the electri motor during overload startup process.

    Drilling Mud Agitator works continuously and reliably in drilling fluids to keep it even and its solid particles suspend. As a major constituent of harmful solid phase, drill cuttings should be suspended and injected into desander, desilter and centrifuge before being taken away. At the same time, useful solid phase, such as, various weighted materials (ground hematite, ground barite) and slight bentonite should also stay in even suspension to stabilize the mud density and other mud properties. Accordingly, it is required that mud agitator should work reliably and continuously if no precipitation is expected.

    Mud agitator mainly mixes and concocts drilling fluids for the purposes of stopping the solid particles from precipitating in tank circulating system and maintaining stable mud properties as well as even concoction. Agitation is very significant in accelerating the reaction, dissolution and wetting of drilling fluids materials(such as, bentonite, barite) and chemical agents.     On Dec 20th, a composite photo stringed by anonymous netizens caught many people’s eyes. It was a composite photo produced by putting two photos of Big Wild Goose Pagoda taken on different dates, displaying a huge contrast before and in haze. On Oct. 24th, the famous Xi’an tourist attraction could still be clearly seen on the photo with some grey buildings hundreds of meters behind it, however, on Dec. 18th, it was totally veiled by the pollution haze as if artificially erased from the landscape. The photo was amusingly surprising, but at the same time it also evoked the hazy Xi’an we have seen in recent months.

    Ever since October last year, this ancient city, once glowing with profound historical heritage and colorful cultural corners, has been greyed by the toxic haze. Masks in citywide pharmacies are sold out and continuously out of stock. Heavy haze turns into a great barrier for smooth traffic and brings about a huge risk against citizens’ safety and health.

    In last December, air quality index soared sharply from 99 on 16th to 278 on 17th, 494 on 22nd and 500 on 25th, and finally settled itself down around the level of “Gravely Contaminated”.

    Days after the photo sensation, another group of composite photos followed suit by put in line the similar scenes on today’s Xi’an snack streets, crossroads, public squares and of the London life in the last century, which bore remarkable resemblance.

    Environment pollution primarily results from unsustainable and excessive urbanization. In recent decades, China has been processing on a rapid development road. It illustrates the intimate correlation and reciprocating impact between them as well as the contradictions arising from slow environmental technology improvement and industrial structural adjustment.

    Heavy industry plays a significant role in promoting urbanization. Such industries as refinery, oil & gas exploration, petrochemistry contribute to great convenience in human life, but they also bring severe pollution to us. At the meantime, their advances demand more from power supply companies, which will exhaust more contaminants.

    Besides, urbanization expands cities in space, thus prolonging citizens’ daily commuting time and increasing exhaust emission from both private cars and public transportation. The increasing population migrates into cities. To some degree, it deteriorates the consequences above.
